When I last wrote Henry was doing most of his night-time sleeping in the swing in our bedroom. Since then, Henry is now sleeping for 5-7 hours at a time at night in his Pack-n-play in our bedroom! Our bedtime routine looks like this:
-LJ usually tries to give him a bath sometime around 8pm or so... he loves to be in the tub and splash around!
-get out of the bath and read a bed-time story with Dad
-nurse to sleep around 9 ish and he's usually asleep between 10-10:30pm, unless we keep him up later for some social function
-put him in the swing for 15 min before putting him in the Pack-n-play
-transfer him to the pack-n-play and he will sleep from around 10pm- 4am (on a good night)
-many times he wakes around 1am, because he has gotten one of his hands out of his swaddle. I don't think he's hungry at this time for the most part, so I usually just re-swaddle him and give him a pacifier and he goes back to sleep.
I usually nurse him anytime between 3-5am and then he will go back to sleep until around 8 -8:30am. For this shorter morning stretch, I have been putting him back to sleep in his swing in our bedroom, but soon this will be changing. When he wakes up around 8ish I bring him into bed with me and we nurse, snuggle, and snooze for another hour or so.
LJ and I have been talking about transitioning Henry into his crib in his own room. I am not sure that I am ready for this transition (although Henry would probably do just fine), as I like to have him close to me so that I can check on him and know that he is safe. It is also easier for me to nurse him in the night. I think a gentle way to start this transition is putting Henry back to sleep in his bedroom after he wakes to eat sometime between 3-5am. I'll have to let you know how this transition goes!
This week we had a night where Henry slept from 10pm-5am, with no interruptions, which was glorious! However, last night he was restless from 1:30-2:30am, so his nights can still be variable.
For naps Henry has started taking one really LONG nap a day, and the rest are about half an hour or so. I have found that Henry will nap for about 3 hours if I swaddle him, rock him until he is very drowsy, then put him down in his swing in his bedroom, and let him fall asleep. We will see how long this lasts, but for right now it is really nice for me!
Physically, Henry has grown a ton. He gained 2 lbs in the last month, from 12-14 lbs, which is fantastic!
Developmentally Henry has also met some major milestones. He discovered his hands and feet, which has provided lots of entertainment! Henry first discovered his hands, and ever since they have been in his mouth. Since Henry discovered his feet about 2 weeks ago he has been doing lots of "happy baby" (a yoga pose where you hold your feet in your hands and bring them up towards your face). Henry has also mastered the art of batting at toys and can now grasp them in his hands and bring them up to his face to put in his mouth. He especially loves to gnaw on the O-ball teether and the Sophie giraffe. Henry continues to be drooling up a storm, but he hasn't cut any teeth yet.
Henry still really dislikes tummy time, but we try to do it more often, for shorter periods of time so that he doesn't get too discouraged. Henry can hold up his head on his own and sit up supported. He has not yet figured out how to roll over.
Henry continues to be really social, and loves to "talk" to people in his environment, especially LJ and I and his grandma and grandpa Horth who he sees on a regular basis. Henry enjoys observing his environment, but this has started to lead to very distracted nursing. It is getting increasingly harder to nurse him in a place where there are other people or lots of outside stimuli. It is also hard to nurse him where there are ceiling fans, as he continues to be fascinated with them!
In the past month have been very busy with lots of fun trips and visits with family. The past two weekends have been filled with activities. June 9-10th we had family in town for Henry's baptism and our niece's 2 year old birthday party at the Sustar Domes. This past weekend we traveled to Michigan City, IN for my Strubbe family reunion. Henry was a rock star at both events and did really well being passed around to many different family members!
Henry just continues to get more and more fun as he grows and changes!
